L’horimono, il tatuaggio tradizionale giapponese, è una vera e propria forma d’arte che richiede una profonda conoscenza del Giappone e del suo folklore. Tutto iniziò nel periodo Edo, quando le isole nipponiche furono separate dal mondo e dalle culture circostanti. Risaie e montagne si popolarono di carpe ostinate e dragoni lucenti, fiori miracolosi ed eroi con armature d’inchiostro.
Queste immagini vissero su pergamene, ceramiche e fili di seta, arrivando sotto la pelle di coloro che le avevano sognate, fino ad oggi, sfidando i secoli.

Horimono, the traditional Japanese tattoo, is a true art form that requires a profound knowledge of Japan and its folklore. It all began in the Edo period, when the Japanese islands were cut off from the surrounding world and cultures. Rice fields and mountains were populated with stubborn carp and shiny dragons, miraculous flowers and heroes wearing armour of ink.
From the parchments, ceramics and silk threads where they live, these images found their way under the skin of those who had dreamed them up, and come down to us today, defying the centuries.
